The following description is a generalized version of a typical wedding in 19th century rural Ukraine. Although these weddings traditions varied a great deal from region to region, they universally involved a series of complex ceremonies that served many different functions. The traditional Ukrainian wedding can be divided into three phases: the pre-wedding phase, the wedding day, and the post-wedding phase.
